Vermont Low Income Advocacy Council
"Celebrating 42 years of representing the interests of low income Vermonters"
VLIAC is committed to empowering the poor to speak for themselves, and to speak for those who cannot. VLIAC believes that it is our responsibility to bring the needs of lower income Vermonters to the forefront of the Legislative agenda.
VLIAC works to advance those programs and policies that promote economic security and human rights for all Vermonters. Through the Council’s advocacy, VLIAC has been giving a voice to the poor, the elderly, those living with disabilities, and low-income working families in the policy making arena of state government.
VLIAC’s Board members are comprised of low income representatives, advocates and members of the faith community from around the five community action areas of the State. Each year we meet regularly during the legislative session and the interim to hear from advocacy organizations, low income folks, state officials, and legislators to develop a set of priorities that we bring forth as our Legislative Agenda. The issues we tackle include those that directly impact the most vulnerable people in our communities, to ensure that their interests are represented in the legislative process.
